The birds are flocking to the feeders in abundance today.  I've enjoyed chickadees, juncos, blue jays, titmice ... or is it titmouses? ... and nuthatches. It's a pretty thing, though color and form are nothing spectacular.  However it has a reputation for hardy faithfulness that is a real boon, and I look forward to watching it increase in my garden. 'Demetrius' (Harris '77) opened it's first bloom of the year today.  The flower is a bit stressed ... some petal damage and the form is slightly wonky.  Normally it's a nicely rounded ruffled yellow self.  I'm sure future blooms, it's loaded with buds, will do better. 'Matt' gave me twins today.  And they turned out lovely.  It's an odd little duck, starting to open days ... over a week in fact ... before the flower actually spreads.  The first bloom allowed a bug to get in there and chew up edges, but today's flowers appear to be just fine, and quite striking. Long story ... I bought these as STELLA, they fit the specs as registered by the AHS, but I've now discovered that true STELLA does NOT fit those specs. It's a field across from a shed/field where some beef cows are kept, and a stream runs under a bridge.  I'm standing on the bridge.
